150TH ANNIVERSARY LEGACY MONUMENT
The memorial celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the 12e RBC will be erected in the City of Trois-Rivières strategically located in the city at the Parc du Platon. It will be a structure built by a local company to pay tribute to the history of the Regiment, whose legacy stems from in Trois-Rivières.
The monument will serve as a tangible reminder of the importance of the 12e RBC in Trois-Rivières’ military heritage. The legacy is, above all, a representation of the military heritage of the city of Trois-Rivières, which was the birthplace of the colonial militia and which is the original fief of the 12e RBC. A ceremony to unveil the monument could be held in the summer of 2021 with the participation of many dignitaries and a guard of honour from the 12e RBC as part of the 150th Regimental Anniversary.
The legacy is also of an educational nature for the public and future generations by publicly exhibiting a monument reflecting the historic military heritage of Trois-Rivières, including the 12e RBC.
This project aims to provide the City of Trois-Rivières with a legacy in the form of a memorial to be displayed in a strategic location in the city. It is a fine way to highlight the military heritage of this region, which was once the birthplace of the colonial militia and reaffirm the importance of the Regiment in the history of Trois-Rivières. The authorities of the city of Trois-Rivières offered a place of choice in the Park of Plato for the construction of the monument. Discussions are currently underway with the City of Trois-Rivières’ Culture Directorate to select a craftsman to create a monument representative of the 150-year history of the 12e RBC. Discussions are also taking place with Veterans Affairs Canada and the Ministère de la culture et des communications du Québec for their support in carrying out this heritage project. The committee foresees funding of 40% of private donations/funds and 60% of public funds. Individual donations are a way for members of the Association to be able to make a tangible contribution to the building of this cultural heritage in the historic district of Trois-Rivières.
